New iPad and VMware stuff

Today, if you have not already heard, VMware released ESXi 5.0 Update 1. The release notes can be found here: link A few days ago VMware also released a VMware Workstation & View Technology Preview. Both added several new features and enhancements. The good news is that we can update our test lab and start to focus on getting vSphere 5.0 into production. We have some new hosts for the NUcloud that will start off with 5.0 as well as 8 additional hosts as part of a planned refresh.

Also my new iPad arrived today, not going to turn this into a braggin post but the Kindle App was upgraded to support Retnia Display and all I can say is books look better on the iPad than paper! ;-)

Moved back to Blogger

Since the acquisition of Posterous by Twitter they have not ben very clear on the future of hosted domains.  So I jumped the gun a bit and moved back to Blogger.  Now I can once again start to use Blogsy to post from the iPad.  I originally moved to Posterous since I Blogger was not working well on the iPad.

Redundant Systems Are Important

Last week we had this slick Keurig Coffee Maker installed in the office and for the most part many of the staff were pleased.

However this morning it decided to leak! So what did we do...failed over to the HA system.
After all we are system engineers!

Update...Keurig was fixes and seems fine now!

New Year and Fresh Start

I must admit that I had every intention to post to this blog a lot more then I had in 2011. I know in the past I dabbled here and there with the whole blog thing, but thought before VMworld that I would give it a go. It just did not quite work out like I hoped, this yea I hope to rectify that and post more often.

Looking back at 2011 I can only think of the great friends of I have met both physically and virtually. I have been in the IT Field for a long time and that the VMware Community is one of the best around, none are so giving and helpful.

A lot of changes occurred at work last year, I can only imagine what 2012 will bring but I am confident it will be vSphere 5, View 5 and vCloud 1.5. A lot of change happened in the HPC arena as well. Personally I need to get myself moving and take the VCP 4 exam so that I can take the VCP 5 exam by the end of February in order to avoid taking another class.

I already have a few posts in the queue, one on our NU vLab, Veeam Pods and how to quickly upgrade an Oracle VM's performance quickly. Not sure what order yet. :-)
